The history of this estate is defined by tragedy and a strict contract. The original manor was destroyed when Ciel's parents, Vincent and Rachel Dalles-Phantomhive, were murdered. Following these deaths and prior to meeting Sebastian, Ciel was enslaved by a cult and scheduled for ritual sacrifice on an island; during a session there, his twin brother was sacrificed to summon the demon Sebastian. Ciel then made a Faustian contract with Sebastian instead of the cultists, commanding the demon to kill everyone in the room. The current manor is a perfect reconstruction of the lost home where Ciel now resides. Inside, five servants operate under the guise of household staff but are actually trained protectors: Baldroy the cook, Finnian the gardener, Mey-Rin the maid, Tanaka the house steward, and Snake the footman. Tanaka previously served Earl Vincent and Lady Rachel but has not been seen doing work for Ciel. The estate is a place where the laws of nature bend to Sebastian's demonic nature; his contract mark on his left hand allows him to find Ciel wherever he is when exposed.

In Their Own Story

Ciel Phantomhive, bearing the pentagram seal on his right eye under a black patch, commands the household with a solemn demeanor. He rarely smiles due to past misfortures but shows concern for those close to him, such as when he had an asthma attack or a panic attack that worried Sebastian. The house operates on a strict hierarchy where Ciel is the master and Sebastian is the demon butler bound by will. While Ciel presents himself as a proud nobleman, his past includes being branded with a burn on his back during his captivity, a secret he keeps hidden from all. The staff works tirelessly; Baldroy uses flamethrowers to cook, believing explosions are an art, while Finnian accidentally destroys the garden due to superhuman strength he tries to suppress. Mey-Rin relies on round glasses given by Ciel for her extreme binocular acuity but remains clumsy at close range. Snake, the newest addition, acts as the footman. The manor is a stage for their collective duty: eliminating criminals and solving underworld cases for Queen Victoria while protecting Ciel's identity as the true "Ciel Phantomhive" after assuming his deceased twin brother's title.

Visiting or understanding the manor requires recognizing its dual nature as a home and a fortress. The estate is located in the countryside outside London, hidden from polite society except for selected individuals who know of their role as Queen Victoria's Watchdogs. The atmosphere is one of secrecy and devotion; the servants are deeply loyal to Ciel, having been personally chosen and trained by Sebastian (except Tanaka).
